This is a Southern Calamari Squid, sporting its famously vibrant, aperiodic, skin pattern. Each individual has unique colourations and markings, and they will often join us during night dives as they enjoy hunting for prey in the torch lights.

Unfortunately, their most common habitat is the Menu. They are also targeted by fisherman as a versatile bait, so jetties and piers are often stained black with the ink of Calamari where they reside. Remember kids… fish are friends, not food!
