The Sydney Pygmy Pipehorse is a local treasure, endemic to only a small number of locations around New South Wales, Australia. It is likely that there are plenty more of these stunning creatures living around Sydney’s various dive sites, however they are extremely difficult to find!

This species are able to camouflage so effectively into their surroundings by allowing algae to grow on their skin, which perfectly matches their preferred habitat, and will also sway with the ebb and flow of the ocean to conceal their movements amongst the dense foliage. Fully grown, the Sydney Pygmy Pipehorse will only reach around 5cm in length.
