A pregnant female Green Sea Turtle rests on the sandy sea floor, waiting to lay her precious cargo of over 100 eggs.

Each night, on the rising tide, she will attempt to find the perfect condition for her nesting site. If she fails to find a suitable spot, she will return to the ocean shallows and await the next high tide, to continue searching until she is happy.

Notably, the gender of the entire clutch is determined by its incubation temperature. Due to ever-rising ocean temperatures, there are increasingly more females, and less male hatchlings. The long term effects are unknown, but could decimate global turtle populations in the not-so-distant future.
